BACKGROUND: After starting a PdM Program at a Wastewater Treatment Facility, the baseline data showed that one of the vertical pumps was showing signs of RESONANCE.

FINDINGS: A Bump test was conducted and the results showed that the pump definitely had a RESONANCE in the radial direction.

SOLUTION: All base fasteners were tightened, the base was re-grouted and stiffing was added. The before and after spectral data are presented below. The unit is now running at acceptable levels.

CONCLUSION: Catastrophic failure was avoided. The resonance was identified and eliminated during a scheduled downtime.
Trending is the key. Once again the PdM Program was justified.
